Products affected: PitneyShip®, PitneyShip® Pro, PitneyShip® Enterprise, ShipAccel
Issue
You received an email from Pitney Bowes with the subject "Insufficient USPS Postage on Your Recent PitneyShip Shipment".
Cause
If you send a USPS package through PitneyShip with a label that doesn't have enough postage, the USPS requires Pitney Bowes to deduct the difference from your postage balance.
If this happens, you will receive an "Insufficient USPS Postage on Your Recent PitneyShip Shipment" email. The email includes the package details and the reason it did not have enough postage.
Insufficient postage can occur due to the following:
- Incorrect Package: The wrong packaging type was used for the selected USPS class. For example, if you used Priority Flat Rate on the label, but you did not use an official Priority Flat Rate box.
- Under Weight: The weight reported on the label was less than the actual weight of the package.
- Duplicate: The same label was used on more than one package.
- Dimensions: The reported dimensions of the package differ from the actual package dimensions.
Resolution
To prevent this issue, be sure to use the correct package type and weigh and measure your packages carefully. Consult the email for additional tips.
To dispute the adjustment, follow the process outlined in the email you received about the adjustment. Responses from USPS regarding the disputes can take up to 15 business days. Disputes must be requested within 60 days of the adjustment notification date.
Disputes which are approved have the adjusted postage added back to your balance. Approved disputes have Short Pay dispute refund approved in the details of the original transaction in your History.
To view these charges in your shipping History:
- Go to Shipping & Mailing > Shipping & Postage History.
- Under the Shipments tab, change All Carriers to USPS.
- Under the All Shipments filter, select Only USPS Shortpay to view transactions that include these extra charges, or you can select Only USPS Overpay to view any shortpay charges with approved disputes.
