About FedEx
When it launched in 1973, FedEx – then Federal Express Corp. – delivered 186 packages to 25 U.S. cities on its first day of business. FedEx quickly shifted from start-up to trend-setter. In its early years, the company made overnight service a staple of the shipping industry in the U.S. In 1981, FedEx introduced international service when it started Overnight Letter deliveries to Canada, before expanding to Europe and Asia in 1984.
Federal Express officially became FedEx in 1994. With about 550,000 employees worldwide, FedEx runs a fleet of more than 215,000 delivery vehicles. And its nearly 700 aircraft make FedEx the largest cargo airline operator in the world. Today, FedEx connects 99% of the world’s GDP, completing over 16 million deliveries every day in more than 220 countries and territories.

How does FedEx ship packages?
Offering a vast variety of shipping services for its customers, include FedEx SameDay® and FedEx Overnight® options, FedEx counts on planes, trains, trucks and delivery vehicles to make sure packages arrive safely and on time all over the world. Using a unique bar code for each package, all FedEx shipments are scanned to allow FedEx and its customers to track packages from the moment it’s sent out for delivery until it reaches its destination.
How does FedEx ground shipping work?
FedEx operates a network of primary distribution centers, or hubs, which handle all packages for FedEx Ground delivery. Once a package arrives at a hub, the delivery address is entered into a database. The package is then routed to a truck for shipment to a distribution warehouse located closer to the recipient, and finally loaded on a FedEx vehicle for delivery.
When does FedEx charge for shipping?
At the time that FedEx scans the shipping label on your package, the charge will be assessed to your FedEx account.
