Creating a Logical Model

A logical model is created by adding business entities to it and defining relationships among the entities. You can also define the properties of the entities as well as the relationships. When complete, you can map the logical model to one or more physical models.

  1. In a web browser, go to:

    http://server:port/metadata-insights

Where server is the server name or IP address of your Spectrumâ„¢ Technology Platform server and port is the HTTP port. By default, the HTTP port is 8080.

  2. Log in using your credentials.
  3. Click Modeling.
The Logical Model tab is displayed by default.
  4. Click the Add Logical Model button .
Note: You can also choose to create a new model by copying an existing model and renaming it. To do this, on the Models tab, select the model and click on the Copy Model icon. Rename the model on the Create Logical Model page as needed and click the Save button. For more information about modifying a physical model, see Modifying a Logical Model.
  5. Enter a name for the model in the Name field.
  6. From the Entities palette, drag the entity you want to add to the model and drop it to the canvas.
Tip: Use the drop-down list in the palette to sort entities on the basis of their categories. You can also use the type-ahead filter box below the drop-down list for this.

The entity is added to the canvas and its properties are displayed in the Properties panel on the right side of the page. To define the properties of an entity, see Defining Properties of Entity and relationship.

  7. To create relationship between two entities, hover the cursor on the entity, drag the mouse and drop it on the entity to which you want to relate it.

The relationship between entities is indicated by a relationship link. When you hover the cursor on the primary entity, the related entity gets highlighted.

Note: Like an entity, you can add properties to the relationship by using the Properties panel. For more information, see Defining Properties of Entity and relationship.
  8. To delete an entity or relationship, select it and click the Delete icon .

If you delete a relationship entity, the related relationship links also get deleted.

  9. Click Save.
