Crime Index

  • Crime index data has been added with information such as likelihood of where crime may occur by 11 crime types for all block groups in the US and Puerto Rico
  • Overall Crime Score (a composite measure based on all crime types)
  • Violent Crime Score composed of Murder, Rape, Robbery and Aggravated Assault offenses
  • Property crime includes Burglary, Larceny-Theft, Motor Vehicle Theft and Arson offenses
  • Each crime variable includes both a numerical score – where higher values denote the increased likelihood of criminal activity – and a qualitative categorization that helps explain the numerical crime score probability

Earthquake Risk

Earthquake Risk data has been added which provides earthquake related information for a given location. The attributes include information from following earthquake related features:

  • Historical Earthquake Information: Contains historical earthquake event details
  • Earthquake Fault Lines: Comprises location of the fault lines
  • Earthquake Fault Zones: Contains a 1/4 mile buffer around each fault line
  • Soil Classifications: Information on soil type which affects the amplification of ground motion
  • California PML Zones: California zone determination for the Probable Maximum loss of the expected insured loss after deductible, for structure and contents damage from large earthquakes.

Premium Tax

Premium Tax data category is included which can be used by the insurance industry to determine sales tax on insurance premiums written in some states. This dataset will also allow insurers to correctly determine the rate due on each insurance policy. The attributes include information on various tax rates for Fire, Vehicle, Casualty, Life, Health, Inland marines, Others etc. along with effective, expiraton and change dates for taxes.

To enhance water availability distance values, apart from waterbodies lake, river waterbodies have also been considered in calculation to update distance values to Nearest_Water_Body field.

Property Fire Protection

The following fields have been removed from the dataset:

  • nearest_water_body_name
  • nearest_water_body_area_meter
  • fs1_Lat
  • fs1_Lon
  • fs2_Lat
  • fs2_Lon
  • fs3_Lat
  • fs3_Lon

Wildfire

Wildland Urban Interface (or WUI) refers to the zone of transition between unoccupied land and human development. Distance to Wildland Urban Interface (DIST_WUI) field added to Wildfire Risk data. It captures the idea that even those homes not sited within the forest are at risk of being burned in a wildland fire and distance values help to identify proximity to the interface.
