Spatial Manager Overview

Spatial Manager provides a structural view of the Spectrum Spatial repository that allows you to browse, search, and manage named resources as well as configure services such as the Feature Service, Mapping Service, and settings for OGC serivces (WFS, WMS, and WMTS).

Viewing Named Resources

Spatial Manager presents named resources in a hierarchical tree, with folders that you can open to see the resources inside as well as details about those folders and resources, such as name, type, and create date. Depending of the type of resource, you can see additional details:
  • For a named table, you can see many details including its description, keywords, and an interactive map preview. For more information, see Table Details Page.
  • For most types of named layers, you can see details such as the description, keywords, the name of the table it references (displayed either as a link to a named table or a path for an inline reference), and the names of any other resources that reference it. For line linkage layers, links to the geometry and line linkage layer tables are displayed instead. For group layers, you can click Layers to display its list of layers.

Click to see an interactive map preview of a layer, which is derived from the bounds or default view of the underlying table. If the default view is not set in the underlying table, the bounds of the feature data of the table are used. If the feature data bounds are unknown, the coordinate system bounds are used. Click the map to open a larger version that allows you to pan and zoom.

Important: To prevent performance issues, the interactive map preview is not automatically displayed. Be aware that previewing the map may have a detrimental effect on server performance; for example, if the table contains a large quantity of data, the process to render the map still runs even when switching to another resource.
Note: Because layers have zoom visibility constraints, there may be cases when the map disappears as you pan and zoom.
  • For a connection that uses a file as a datasource, you can see source folder (for example, the location of the TAB or shapefile). For a connection that uses a database as a datasource, you can also see the database type, connection URL, and connection properties (key-value pairs).
  • For a named map, you can see a description, keywords, and list of its layers (click Layers to display the list of layers) as well as an interactive map preview. Click the map to open a larger version that allows you to pan and zoom. This interactive map is displayed in its own coordinate system or reprojected using the Popular Visualization or "Popular Mercator" coordinate system (epsg:3857) if it cannot be displayed in its own coordinate system (if it cannot be reprojected, you will see an error).
  • For a named tile, you can see a description, keywords, and tile properties. For more information, see Tile Details Page.
  • For a named WMTS layer, you can see a description, keywords, and WMTS information such as reference tile, layer identifier, and layer title. For more information, see WMTS Layer Details Page .
  • For a named label source, you can see details such as the description, keywords, the name of the table it references (displayed either as a link to a named table or a path for an inline reference), and the names of any other resources that reference it.

At the folder level, you can use the filter on the right side of the window to limit the displayed list of resources. For example, type Project to see only resources with the word Project in their names.

Managing Named Resources

Spatial Manager allows you to create and modify connections, named tables, named tiles, and named WMTS layers as well as rename, move, and delete resources. These functions are all available at the folder level. Other resources that reference renamed or relocated resources are updated to reflect the new name or location, therefore preserving connections between resources as well as the permissions assigned to the renamed resource. You can also create, rename, move, and delete folders.

Searching Named Resources

A search field is available above the repository tree. Enter a word or phrase to search resource names, keywords, and descriptions. If you enter more than one word, the search is treated as a Boolean OR; that is, it returns results containing either word or all words. If you enter coordinate system, for example, the search will return results that include "coordinate," "system," or "coordinate system." Quotes are supported to search for specific phrases ("My New Table"). Wild card searching using an asterisk (*) is not supported.
Search results are ranked by relevance. If a search result has an exact match in the resource name, it appears above results that do not match as perfectly (only 1 out of 2 words, for example) or only have a match in the description or keywords. From the search results page, you can sort your search results by relevance, resource type, name, or modified date. You can also use the Search In filter to narrow or widen the scope of the search (either stay within a specific folder or search the entire repository), the Resource Type filter to include only certain types of resources (such as tables or connections), and the Modified filter to include or exclude resources based on their modified dates.

Configuring Services

Spatial Manager allows you to easily configure the Feature Service and Mapping Service. You can also modify Web Map Service (WMS), Web Map Tiling Service (WMTS), Web Feature Service (WFS) settings as well as create, modify, move, organize, and delete WMS and WMTS layers and WFS feature types.

Browser Requirements

The following browsers are supported for Spatial Manager:

  • Internet Explorer 11
  • Google Chrome 70.0 or later
  • Mozilla Firefox 62.0 or later

Signing In

To sign in, enter the same user name and password you use for the Spectrumâ„¢ Technology Platform and click Submit. If you enter an incorrect user name or password, you will be returned to the sign-in page with an error message indicating the credentials were invalid.

Security

If restrictions are in place at the file-server level, a user requires a permission override via access control settings for the secured entity "Platform.Resources - Server Directory Paths" on at least one restriction. If there are no restrictions at the file-server level, all users can freely browse the entire server file system. Administrators can limit server directory access so that sensitive portions of the server cannot be browsed. For information on limiting server directory access and using access control settings, see the Managing Security section of the Spectrumâ„¢ Technology Platform Spectrum Spatial Administration Guide.

Language Settings

Spatial Manager is displayed in your top choice of language if you properly configure the language preferences in your browser. To display Mexican Spanish in the application, for example, set the language preferences in your browser to list Mexican Spanish (es-mx) first, followed by Spanish (es) then by English (en and en-us):
  • es-mx
  • es
  • en
  • en-us
The following configuration, however, will display the application in English instead of Mexican Spanish:
  • es-mx
  • en
  • en-us
